सफलताको कथा (रिपोर्ताजमूलक रचना)
Introduction
Safalta Ko Katha (सफलताको कथा, "A Story of Success") is a reportage-style composition (रिपोर्ताजमूलक रचना) in the Class 11 Nepali course. Written in a personal, intimate style, it tells the true-to-life story of a young man who rebuilt his broken life through yoga and meditation, as discovered and narrated by a journalist in search of a feature story.
Summary
The narrator, Amit Thakur, is a journalist from Taulihawa who studied journalism at the Ratna Rajya Laxmi campus. While attending a programme in Dhulikhel in search of a feature story, he comes across Sundar Chhantyal, takes his phone number, visits his home at Arubari in Kathmandu, and gradually builds a brotherly relationship with him: through which Sundar's remarkable story unfolds. The reportage also describes the narrator's own attraction to meditation, practised at Lumbini's stupas, under pipal trees, in temple courtyards and at Pashupati, and his love for the calm, solitary environment of Gothatar, so suited to yoga.
Sundar was born in a village in Myagdi as the only child of a government-officer father and a schoolteacher mother, and grew up in comfort. He passed his SLC from a well-known Kathmandu school, completed higher secondary in science and earned a degree in civil engineering. Then misfortune struck twice: his father died suddenly of a heart attack, halting his studies, and his mother was diagnosed with cancer. Her treatment in Delhi cured her but drowned the small family in debt, forcing them to sell some of their hill land to repay it.
One day mother and son visited Dr. Yugendra Jha's treatment centre in Naya Baneshwar, where they took up the methods of yoga and meditation. Slowly Sundar's mind grew calm. As he understood yoga more deeply (the journey through pranayama, pratyahara, dharana and dhyana towards samadhi) the disorders of his mind fell away and the will to live awoke in him again. Self-confidence returned: he resolved to repay the remaining debt through his own hard work, and with continuous effort and study he passed the examination for technical officer. Sundar now lives a successful, stress-free life: a living proof of the reportage's message.
Theme
Life is a mixture of ups and downs, and suffering begins when the mind cannot accept them. The chapter teaches that deep peace comes from meditation and bodily health from yoga: with a calm, concentrated mind and strong willpower, a person can face any problem and turn even a broken life into a story of success.
